Uwajima Tourist Attractions

  Tenshōen

  A garden with a pond built by Munenori Date, the 7th lord of the Uwajima clan, as a place of retirement. Various kinds of bamboo, named after the crest of the Date family, and seasonal flowers such as wisteria and Japanese iris are planted, creating a calm atmosphere throughout the garden.

  Uwajima Castle

  Built in 1601 by Takatora Todo, a famous castle builder, it later became the residence of the ninth generation of the Date family. The castle tower was rebuilt around 1666 by the 2nd feudal lord of Date, and is now a symbol of Uwajima City as one of the 12 valuable surviving castle towers.

  Terraced fields of Yuzigaura

  The terraced fields, which are described as "plowing to reach the heavens", are terraced fields created by stacking stone walls on steep mountain slopes. The majestic scenery has been selected as one of the national important cultural landscapes and one of the 100 views of Japanese farming villages, and it looks like a stairway to the heavens.
